Cat Cake
Share
My mother-in-law made this cat cake for my husband for his first birthday and remade it for my son on his 1st birthday. I shared it on instagram and was inundated with requests of how it is made. Here is the orginal recipe and also my version which I have made today for my daughter's second birthday.
I made 2 sponges in round oven-proof bowls (I added a banana for a firm cake)
- 4 eggs
- 200g caster sugar
- 230g butter
- 230g self-raising flour
- 1 ripe banana
Heat oven to 180 degrees. Grease 2 oven proof bowls.
Mix all ingredients with an electric whisk. Cook until firm and when a knife is inserted, comes out clean.
Let cool completely before any assembly or decorating!
I made a head shape from one cake, and pointy ears, which I glued on with shop bought vanilla frosting.
I didn't have any sweets to make the face so I used these brilliant cake pens to draw eyes on smarties and colour in some dried spaghetti.
I covered the whole cake in the bought frosting (I can see why chocolate might be less messy looking with all the cake crumbs) and added spaghetti whiskers and decorated with smarties. I made a little hat from some recycled tomato box and added a shop bought number candle.
